-The purpose of the school will be to provide a comprehensive "crash" course in mitochondrial bioenergetics using the Bioenergetics IV text by David G. Nicholls and Stuart Ferguson and selected primary literature as reference material. Emphasis will be placed on problem-based learning, small group interactions, etc. The course will also offer hands-on practical training on different aspects of mitochondrial function. At the end of the 3+ day school, it is anticipated participants will have a sound understanding of the principles of bioenergetics as well as the advantages and limitations of techniques currently used to study mitochondrial function. The course is intended to serve the interests of researchers new to the field as well as those with experience. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their research in short oral presentation (4+1 min) and/or poster format.
