MitoCom entwickelt und bündelt regionale Kompetenzen in der mitochondrialen (mt) Physiologie und mt-Medizin in einem Zusammenschluss von universitärer und industrieller Forschung und Entwicklung. Mitochondriale Dysfunktionen wurden in den vergangenen Jahren zunehmend als Ursache oder Indikator verschiedenster nicht-übertragbarer Krankheiten erkannt, die in modernen Gesellschaften mit verwestlichtem Lebensstil epidemiologische Ausmaße erreichen und eine akute Herausforderung an unser Gesundheitssystem stellen. EAGLE (Evolution – Alter – Gender – Lifestyle – Environment) stellt die Basis jeder Studie über mitochondriale Funktion dar. Die fundierte Analyse mitochondrialer Kompetenz und die Zusammenführung der Daten von breit angelegten Studien für die Interpretation im multidimensionalen Konzept von EAGLE wird einen unverzichtbaren Eckpfeiler für die Vorsorgemedizin bilden. Im EAGLE Projekt soll auf der Basis von mitochondrialer Kompetenz ein spezifisches Angebot für Erholungsprogramme, Sport, Wellness und Lifestyle-Monitoring entwickelt werden, welches regional und international die mitochondriale Funktion in das Zentrum der Präventionsmedizin rückt.
EAGLE is the key node strengthening the network between established omics (gen/proteo/metabol) and lifestyle physiology databases (spiroergometry; anthropometry; nutrition; general lifestyle and environment; preventive medicine; pathology; clinical and pharmacological interventions). MitoCom will provide a unique offer in the programmes of recreation, sports, wellness, life style monitoring and preventive medicine. The collaboration with established regional initiatives will demonstrate the benefits for a widespread translation of the expertise gained by the current research, with direct applications of the possibilities offered by the MitoCom EAGLE concept on mitochondrial competence. An EAGLE database will be established in the MitoCom Centre of Excellence to provide a cornerstone for the leadership of the mitochondrial monitoring instruments developed and marketed by OROBOROS INSTRUMENTS. The O2k-Core and NextGen-O2k will be further established as the gold standard for generating data with the reliability required for the EAGLE database. Standardized protocols developed by the EAGLE project will be streamlined for applications of the OROBOROS O2k. This will lead to a significant expansion of the world-wide market for the O2k in the transition from a well established specialized research tool to a standard biomedical instrument.
