GM-pathway control state

Description

GM

GM: Glutamate & Malate.

MitoPathway control: CI

When glutamate&malate are added to isolated mitochondria or permeabilized cells, glutamate and transaminase are responsible for the metabolism of oxaloacetate, comparable to the metabolism with acetyl-CoA and citrate synthase

Abbreviation: GM

Reference: Gnaiger 2014 MitoPathways - Chapter 3.4

MitoPedia O2k and high-resolution respirometry: "SUIT state" is not in the list (O2k hardware, DatLab, Oroboros QM, O2k-Open Support, O2k-Respirometry, O2k-FluoRespirometry) of allowed values for the "MitoPedia O2k and high-resolution respirometry" property. Discussion

In human skeletal muscle mitochondria, respiration with GM in the presence of ADP (GM(P)) is identical or 10% higher than with PM (PM(P)). These results on isolated mitochondria agree with permeabilized fibres, although there are reports on respiratory capacity for PMP being 16% to 25% higher than for GM(P). In fibroblasts, GM(P) supports a higher respiratory flux than PM(P).
