Description
Density is frequently a quantity divided by volume: mass density or mass concentration is mass per volume, MΒ·V-1 [kgΒ·m-3]; radiant energy density is radiant energy per volume, QΒ·V-1 [JΒ·m-3]; charge density is charge per volume, QΒ·V-1 [CΒ·m-3]. However, electric current density is current divided by area, j=IΒ·A-1 [CΒ·m-2]. Number density of entities or number concentration is numbers per volume, CB = NBΒ·V-1 [xΒ·m-3]. In contrast, the amount-of-substance concentration, cB = nBΒ·V-1 [molΒ·m-3] is not called a substance density (IUPAC). Thus the sample mass concentration is CmX = mXΒ·V-1 [kgΒ·m-3], the mitochondrial concentration is CmtE = mtEΒ·V-1 [mtEUΒ·m-3], whereas the specific mitochondrial density is DmtE = mtEΒ·mX-1 [mtEUΒ·kg-1], and the mitochondrial content per object X is mtENX = mtEΒ·NX-1 [mtEUΒ·x-1] (MitoEAGLE preprint 2018-02-08).
